You Helped Change Fatima’s Future 💗

This story may sound familiar because we’ve shared parts of *Fatima’s journey before. But seeing where she is today, we knew we had to update you!

Fatima came into Princess Promise’s care in February 2024 after enduring years of severe abuse, instability, and neglect. At the time, the caregiver she had been with attempted to send Fatima away by bus to another individual, fearful that the extent of the abuse would eventually be discovered and lead to consequences for her actions.

During the journey, eyewitnesses noticed extreme injuries covering Fatima’s arms and face — cuts, bruises, and marks from repeated beatings — and became alarmed. Concerned for her safety, they stayed nearby to see who would arrive to collect her. When the woman who was supposed to receive Fatima saw strangers gathered around the child and realized questions were being asked, she fled out of fear that she too would face accusations of abuse.

Fatima was then taken to the police and ultimately brought safely into the care of Princess Promise.

When Fatima arrived at our Interim Care Center, she carried very few belongings and visible wounds from the abuse she had suffered. Beyond the physical injuries, she was deeply emotionally burdened.

As our team began tracing efforts to understand her family situation, Fatima tearfully shared that she had lived with six different caregivers throughout her childhood and repeatedly ran away because of severe mistreatment. She expressed deep fear about being reunified with either her previous caregiver or her father, who she explained was a witch doctor who moved frequently from village to village. Fatima shared that her father often showed little concern for her well-being and would even encourage caregivers to mistreat her.

Although Fatima loved her mother deeply, she also worried about returning to the extreme poverty and instability of her mother’s living conditions. More than anything, Fatima longed for safety, stability, education, and the chance for a different future.

Today, by God’s grace, Fatima’s story looks remarkably different.

Fatima was ultimately placed in the loving home of her grandmother, where she now lives alongside several cousins in a safe and nurturing environment. She is deeply loved, tenderly cared for, and it has been a tremendous honor for Princess Promise to walk alongside and support their family.

This summer, during Family Camp, Fatima was one of four girls who publicly shared that she had given her life to Christ and chose to participate in believer’s baptism.

In one of the most unforgettable moments of camp, Fatima stood during Africana Night and boldly shared her testimony. With surprising humor, courage, and honesty, she spoke openly about the horrific abuse she endured and the way God has redeemed her story through His unfathomable grace and the support of Princess Promise.

Thank you for helping create moments like this — moments where a little girl who once knew so much pain can now smile brightly while sharing the story of how Jesus has made beauty from ashes.

*We’ve chosen a different name to protect her, while honoring the beauty of her story.
